From Sign On San Diego: SAN DIEGO — The first storm to drop a measurable amount of rain in five months walloped the region Saturday, November 28th, bringing heavy downpours and hail, dropping several inches of snow on the mountains and pounding the coast with large waves.
This lifeguard boat flip over in Mission Bay channel, sending two lifeguards into the water, while towing a submerged sport fishing boat that earlier capsized in the channel during the severe weather. The six victims of the fishing boat were reportedly taking part in a fishing tournament. All six went to UCSD Hospital. Neither of the lifeguards was hurt. A private tow company was called to retrieve the original boat off the rocks where it had drifted during the latter incident. ~The MIRACULOUS Rescue ~
One of the six fishermen was Sam's friend Steven Sanford. Sam was able to talk to Steven the day after the accident. Steven suffered a broken rib. His dad was also one of the six fishermen. His life jacket automatically inflated, and trap him in the capsized boat. " Luckily" he was able to cut his life jacket with a knife and it deflated. He was then able to free himself from the boat. Weeks later, when Sam called to checkup on Steven, he told Sam that he thought for sure he was going to drown. He said as he was submerging for what he thought was his last time, he held his arm up as high as he could, and waved his hand. Miraculously, a lifeguard saw him and was able to grab hold of his arm, and pull him to safety.
Steven was one of my seminary students. I love this boy! I am so thankful his life was spared.
